       One Doctor:  A Physician’s Diary
contains over eighty moving stories as they
appeared in the Courier-Post, Southern New
Jersey’s largest newspaper.
Dr. Marzili’s stories focus on the human side
of medicine in a stirring and compelling
manner.  Readers feel like they are in the
room with Dr. Marzili and are offered a rare
glimpse into the doctor-patient relationship.
They are witness to the hopes, fears,
suffering and raw courage experienced by
patients and their families as they go
through their medical ordeals.
The book begins as you join Dr. Marzili on
the first day of his residency as he is called
to pronounce a dead patient.  You will sit
with him in horror as a medical school
instructor uncaringly presents a terrified
seventeen year old girl who has just been
paralyzed.  Ride with him to the streets of
Camden, New Jersey to find beauty in a
dying AIDS patient amidst the squalor of the
city.  Enter a dark and lonely hospital room
where a murderer awaits.  Struggle to
answer a young boy’s questions about life
and death.  Uncover the surprising causes
of an elderly man’s bruises and a young
man’s rash.  Tell an irate and threatening
father that his baby has died.  Teach a
valuable lesson to a suicidal young girl.
Watch a war hero as he goes to his final
reunion.
This book is must reading for anyone
entering the medical profession or for

I had to write and tell you what a wonderful column you write in the Courier-Post.  I just started reading it recently
and was sorry I hadn’t read it sooner.  It’s always so heartwarming and usually brings tears to my eyes.  Keep up
the good work.

I am a second year medical student and after I read your column I always mean to write and tell you how much it
means to me.  Today I finally decided I had to write.  You are making an impact on my education and I just
wanted you to know that.
                                        MH, Stratford, NJ

WOW - what a moving story!  You did your usual excellent job of putting a human face on the medical practice.
Thanks again for those terrific articles.  Keep writing!

Ever since I have begun reading the Physician’s Diary column in the Courier-Post, I have meant to write and
relate to you my gratitude for the stories that you have written.  Your column imparts to us that there are some
caring doctors who do understand that their patients are people first, each with a unique life story.  Your writings
grant us insights into the humanity of your patients.  Your stories are good for the soul.  Please don’t ever stop
writing them.
                                        CR, Wenonah, NJ

Lovely story.  I felt I was in the room with you.

I am a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in pre-med and psychology.  It is a dream of mine to
go to medical school and become a pediatrician.  My mother recently mailed me an article from the Courier-Post
entitled, “Medical student sees more than a textbook case in patient.”  I just wanted to write to you and thank you
for the words of advice.  Hopefully, one day I will have my own patients and remember to treat them like people,
not medical cases.  Thank you for the inspirational story.
                                        MK, University of Notre Dame

There’s one thing that I don’t like about your column in the Courier-Post... “I wish it would appear more often!!!”
                                        DD, Audubon, NJ

I just wanted to send you a note to thank you for all the beautiful stories you write in the Courier-Post.  I’ve been
a nurse in the South Jersey area for twenty-two years and the tenderness you display is heartwarming.  I never
finish your articles without a tear.  I can so relate to each of your stories with my own experiences in private
practice.  Thanks again, Dr. Marzili, you have reached many hearts.  I look forward to reading many more of your
articles.
                                        SD, L.P.N.

I’ve been planning to write you for a long time to tell you how much I enjoy your column...finally I’ve done it.  Being
a retired R.N., I feel your compassion, empathy and sensitivity when you write about patients as you do.  If you
are as good a M.D. as you are a writer, I feel you are one “special human being”.
                                        JS, Westmont, NJ

I really enjoy your articles.  They show the ideal of your profession.
                                        JK

I just read another article you write and had to write to let you know how impressed I am.  Your ability to relate
these sensitive situations to others is exceptional!  It allows people to see that the Medical Profession has
concerned, empathetic, caring people such as yourself.  I always feel that your article is the best one in the
paper!  I have even told my co-workers about your articles.  Keep writing.  You have a gift!
